Introduced in 2012 for all employers in the UK, Workplace Pensions are now a significant cost for both employers and their staff. Not only has up to 3% of payroll been added to an employers costs but they also have to foot the bill for staff hours spent dealing with the scheme. This can amount to thousands of pounds each year. As for staff they now have up to 5% of their salary deducted and moved into a pension fund, which is confusing as well as costly.
